A family business does not always keep all the shares for family members

Neil Donaldson, chairman and chief executive of James Donaldson & Sons, runs one of the UK’s oldest family-run timber businesses.

He has set up an employee share scheme that motivates and retains loyal staff. It also helps the family business think and act more like a quoted company.
