Edward and Celia Atkin: the definitive profile
by Matthew Rock - Friday, 15th February 2008 -
Profile of the couple who built Cannon Avent to a global business.
The Cannon Rubber Manufacturers was founded by Edward Atkin’s father David, the son of Latvian immigrants, in north London in the thirties. The original business made hot-water bottles in a factory built to manufacture billiard cues (hence the name, Cannon). Edward joined in 1965, and over the next 40 years, he transformed it into a state-of-the-art manufacturer with exports accounting for 80 per cent of its £109m-sales (almost half of them from the US).
