How to make money on Facebook
by Melissa Hancock - Monday, 29th October 2007
Arena Flowers is one SME that is already seeing the rewards of launching a Facebook app.
“We’ve already made more than £900-worth of sales from our app since launching it at the end of July,” says Will Wynne, founder and MD of the online florist, which is currently turning over £10,000 a day.
The app, called “Flowers & Fun”, allows people to send virtual flowers, chocolates, drinks, balloons and cuddly toys to their friends. Presently, 19 per cent of Arena Flowers’ daily visits originate from it.
“We’re currently in a slow period, but during Christmas I expect our visits to go through the roof,” says Wynne.
Equally exciting is the brand awareness that Flowers & Fun is generating: “35,000 people have sent virtual presents, so that’s 35,000 people who have seen our brand name who might not have otherwise.”
Wynne believes that this subliminal advertising and brand exposure is extremely valuable: “Hopefully when people do want to buy flowers, they’ll remember us and come straight to our site. Or when they search for ‘flower delivery in London’ on Google, they’ll recognise Arena Flowers and be more likely to click on it.”
