Hang on to your human resources

This is the page

RB.co.uk puts Price’s HR knowledge to the test by gleaning her top tips on keeping poachers at bay and employees sweet.

Price keeps staff turnover low by making sure that her staff see a career path leading right to the top. “Park City is growing at 40 per cent per year, so our management team is expanding all the time. The opportunities are there without staff having to wait for someone to leave to move up the ladder. They don’t have to walk in a dead man’s shoes.”

Price is also averse to hiring outsiders for top positions. “Out of the four members of the management team, only one was brought in from outside the company. My first port of call is always to promote from within.”

Is this enough to stop other companies from poaching your best people, or should you have any other tricks up your sleeve?

“A lot of companies pay lip service to flexible working. But I really mean it. My staff can choose their hours to fit in with them. We’ve also got flexible benefits. Staff can choose between a fully funded gym membership, health care or a matched contribution pension. One year, one of my consultants might want the gym, the next a pension. It’s down to them.”
