The wonderful world of wiki
by Rebecca Burn-Callander - Tuesday, 11th September 2007
This is the page
It’s run on the same premise as most wikis. Namely, it’s free and all articles can be edited and augmented by anyone registered to the site.
Look up your business (www.bizwiki.co.uk); there’s likely to be a listing.
Though, if Caspian Publishing is anything to go by, it’s likely to be wrong (we are no longer based in Millbank Tower). The good news is that if you “claim” your listing, you can keep the business world updated with all your news and, as the registered editor, remove any erroneous information.
Who knows if this’ll be big, but it’s no doubt hoping to replicate the success of Wikipedia.
The owner prefers to remain anonymous, calling him/herself simply "Infoactive". But RB is hot on the case to find out future plans for this fledgling wiki.
In the meanwhile, claim your page – before your competitor does and trashes you.

Glad you've found Bizwiki. We're very excited about the prospects. Bizwiki.co.uk beta launched less than two months ago and we're hard at work getting ready for live launch which will include many new features such as the Clain Your Business feature you meantioned. Caspian Publishing's record has been updated, thanks for the heads up. I've noticed that the old address is still used on a number of website directories. The good news is that on Bizwiki it's quick to make changes like this. Either we can do it or you can sign up for free and submit the change yourself. We've had thousands of new businesses added and details changed since launch. I think it's important to note here that, unlike some wiki sites, Bizwiki requires registration. We also hold all edits for approval. The reason we do this is so that we can at least attempt to ensure the new telephone number, address or whatever has been edited is indeed correct rather than, as you say at the end of your post, just a competitor trying to trash you. We're hoping to be able to offer businesses a range of additional features and services. Claim Your Business is just the beginning. While you're waiting for that why not make sure your company is listed. If it's not you can add it for free. If it is you can add to the About (again, it's free) and tell us what you sell, offer, do, when you're open, where you operate and any other factual details about your company. Make sure we have your website address, the associations and industry bodies you belong to noted, awards you've won listed and so on. Again, thanks for mentioning Bizwiki on the Real Business blog. I'm happy to answer any questions you or business owners might have. Just send us an email at info@bizwiki.co.uk

Hi Rebecca, just a quick follow up. We removed the beta sign from www.bizwiki.co.uk yesterday and it's now fully launched. In the 7 months since beta launch we've had over 2000 users sign up, most of them to add businesses and update/enrich business information. A big thanks to everyone who's contributed. Registration is still fast and free and so is the addition of businesses so don't be shy, add or update your business' record on Bizwiki.co.uk today or email us at info@bizwiki.co.uk and we'll do it for you.
