Ask Timpo: a problem with BO

Does your washroom have a shower? If not, it’s time to get one. You can’t expect cyclists and joggers to freshen up with deodorant wipes – and, if you’re not careful, you’ll be accused of discriminating against the keep-fit fanatics.
It’s not just the athletes that could benefit; you may also find showers and lockers useful at the end of the day when you need to put on your DJ before a long night at a tedious black tie dinner with accountants, lawyers or bankers.
Assuming your office is fully equipped, let’s get to the difficult bit: how to tackle your BO cyclist.
There isn’t an easy way to say “you smell”, but that’s what you have to do, quickly followed by helpful suggestions about hygiene and strong deodorant. It’s a major test for a manager, but you will learn something about your power of determination, tact and diplomacy.
Despite this opportunity to prove your virility as a manager, I would let the HR department handle it – it’s the sort of challenge they relish.
