Focus on: The new manufacturers

img one

Think UK manufacturing is dead? A distant memory from the glory days of old? Our showcase of the brightest sparks in the industry will make you think twice.

Can it be true? Is it a blip? An anomaly? Apparently not. The March CBI Industrial Trends Survey showed something pretty implausible, if not impossible: British manufacturing is enjoying the longest run of sustained demand for 12 years. Export orders are at their best level for 13 years.

As the pound slumps and retailers wobble, is British manufacturing staging the greatest recovery since Lazarus? Just maybe.

In this, our Focus On... British manufacturing, we investigate whether Britain's manufacturers are capable of reversing four decades of continuous decline.
